Naples Gets Its First Taiwanese Community

A Moment We’ve Been Waiting For

Last Thursday, something really special happened in Naples. The city welcomed its very first official Taiwanese community organization—Comunità dei Taiwanesi a Napoli—and honestly, I still can’t quite believe it’s real. For those of us living in southern Italy, there’s always been this quiet longing for connection with home, a space where we can share our experiences without explanation. Well, that day finally came.

The inauguration was nothing short of electric. We had the honor of welcoming Taiwan’s current ambassador to Italy, who came to bless our new chapter and share some incredibly moving words about the importance of community abroad. Seeing our ambassador in Naples, celebrating with us—it meant everything.

What This Means for Southern Italy

Along with the community organization, we’ve also established the Associazione Culturale Taiwanesi a Napoli (Taiwan Cultural Association of Naples). Together, these two groups are going to be our lifeline. Whether you’re a Taiwanese expat, a student studying in the south, or someone working remotely from Italy, we’re here to bridge the gap—faster communication, better information sharing, and real connection.

Beyond just being a support network, we’re committed to sharing Taiwan with Italy. We’ll be hosting regular cultural events designed to deepen Italians’ understanding of our island, our food, our traditions, and who we are. It’s a beautiful two-way street.

The Unexpected President

Plot twist: I’ve taken on the role of president. Which means I went from planning these events to suddenly attending official meetings with the current mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and coordinating the entire launch day. Talk about a crash course in community leadership! 😂 It’s been thrilling, a little chaotic, but so rewarding.

Our Small But Mighty Community

Here’s the thing about our Taiwanese community in Naples—we’re small, but we’re genuinely special. Every single person here chose to be here, chose to build a life in this incredible city, and that brings such intention to who we are. The energy at our opening celebration was infectious. We laughed, celebrated, took countless photos, and genuinely felt like we were part of something bigger than ourselves.

If you’re living or traveling in southern Italy and you’re Taiwanese, or you simply want to connect with our community and culture, you’re not alone anymore. Come join our growing family.

I translate flavors, habits, and identities between two worlds that rarely meet—but deeply resonate when they do. This space is where those worlds collide. And occasionally, where they argue.
