Half a Day in Naples? Here’s Your Game Plan
I get this question more often than I’d expect: “I’m stopping in Naples for just half a day—what shouldn’t I miss?”
My internal response? Half a day? That’s never enough. But I get it. For a lot of travelers from Asia, Naples still carries that outdated reputation from fifteen years ago—the chaotic southern city, the one with the garbage problem, the sketchy neighborhoods. I used to understand that hesitation.
Here’s what’s changed: Naples has landed in the top five most popular Italian tourist destinations for three consecutive years. German and Dutch visitors especially have discovered what locals have always known. Today’s Naples is vibrant, layered, and genuinely surprising around every corner.
Why You Need a Real Plan
“Half a day” doesn’t mean rushing. It means being smart about it. That’s why I’ve put together three different half-day routes—Routes A, B, and C—each designed with the same principles:
✅ Start at Toledo Metro Station—arguably Italy’s most beautiful subway stop, direct from Napoli Centrale
✅ Everything on foot—no additional transport needed, longest route tops out at 3 miles
✅ Mostly straight lines—even if you get distracted by charming side streets (you will)
✅ Street food included—come hungry
✅ Real Neapolitan food—the kind locals eat, at prices that don’t feel like a con
How the Map Works
I’ve organized everything into three layers: Bars & Street Food (coin-change prices, eat standing or find a nearby stoop), Sights & Museums (some free on the first Sunday of each month), and Restaurants & Trattorias (the kind of places where locals actually show up). Everything is pinned, categorized, and ready to explore.
Why Route A is Perfect for Beginners
This is the one I’m starting with, and here’s why it works:
❤️ Flat, no stairs—any shoes work
❤️ Heavy police presence—it’s the main retail spine
❤️ Everything you need shops-wise, eating-wise, everything
❤️ Ends at Naples’ most gorgeous coastline
The map is public and shareable. Click the link, zoom in, explore. If you find a spot I missed or want to share your own discovery, drop it in the comments. That’s how these guides actually get better.

Half a day isn’t nothing. It’s just about choosing well.
